Unborn should have stayed that way

In "The Unborn," Odette Yustman stars as Casey Beldon, a young woman haunted by a dybbuk.

In Jewish mythology, a dybbuk is a demonic spirit that inhabits a dead person. Beldon notices that one is after her when she is taunted by visions of a creepy boy and a disturbing dog with an upside down head. David S. Goyer's weak plot is packed with unoriginal "jump-out-of-your-seat-from-disgusted-shock-even-though-you-know-it's-coming" moments, causing the film to dance on the line between startling and

hilarious.

With overly dramatic and tearful scenes and a plot full of holes and unexplained occurrences such as potato bugs, this film leans more toward the funny side.

When small children turned into demons and phrases such as "Jumby wants to be born now" were repeatedly uttered, the audience could not help but laugh out loud in the theater.

Even Beldon's sexy underwear scenes couldn't save this movie.
