On July 1, 1976, the Wildcat reported that Dt. Stephen L. Wangensteen had been named the new head of the surgery department in the University Medicine College. The surgery department had been without a permanent head since Dr. Erle E. Peacock Jr. was removed in 1973.

On June 30, 1981, the Wildcat reported that the ASUA Executive Council voted to give the Arizona hockey club team $500 to help pay off a $5,000 loan taken out by head coach Leo Golembiewski - who still coaches the team - to help cover the team's debts. ASUA had contributed $2,700 to the club hockey team the year before, when the club's expenditures totaled $12,000.

On July 1, 1982, the Wildcat reported that the UA Flandrau Planetarium would offer a view of the lunar eclipse that took place later in the week. A number of telescopes were provided to view the event, which was extra special because although total eclipses of the sun occur twice a year, "here in Tucson, it may be centuries before we see a total eclipse of the sun," said Lawrence J. Dunlap, education director of the Planetarium.

On June 28, 1984, the Wildcat reported that the UA's ROTC programs were still in need of a permanent home. The basement of Old Main wasn't a possibility because the space was being used by the Air Force and Army programs. The University Heights elementary school was also bid on, but the bid was topped. The Douglass Building and Bear Down Gym were also considered.
