    Dorm assailant arrested

A 38-year-old Tucson man was arrested Monday by Univesity of Arizona Police Department officers, after DNA evidence tied him to a sexual assault committed in Manzanita-Mohave residence hall almost two years ago.

Deguan Lamar Lee was booked into Pima County Jail on charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault, kidnapping and robbery.

UAPD Commander Kevin Haywood said DNA was collected from Manzanita-Mohave, 1000 N. Park Ave., after police responded April 12, 2007. When DNA is tested it can only be checked against other DNA evidence that has been previously entered into the system.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety notified UAPD on Monday that a DNA match had been found within the system.

“”The DNA went in, in 2007 and the system runs it against known samples and a known DNA has to go into the system before it would come back a hit,”” Haywood said. “”At some point in time his DNA got into the system and then we got the hit.””

The assault took place when a man entered the residence hall in the early morning of April 12 and confronted and sexually assaulted a female resident, according to Daily Wildcat archives.

Lee was arrested in the area of Silverlake Road and Mission Road, police said. Bail has been set at $100,000.
