Arizona men’s golfer Brian Prouty is the new No. 1 collegiate golfer in the country.
Coming off wrist surgery, Prouty had two outstanding performances, winning the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 30 by shooting a career-best 62 (9-under-par), as well as a fourth-place individual finish in the John Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 23.
Prouty was given the ranking by Golfweek Magazine and was measured by Sagarin Performance Index, a system that ranks every NCAA Division I individual golfer. He received a 67.87 rating through the two events.
The senior, a Tucson native, suffered torn cartilage during the fall season and hadn’t competed in any tournament since the U.S. Amateur’s Tournament in August. After having surgery in September, he wasn’t cleared to play for three months.
