Arizona safety Patrick Onwuasor was arraigned Monday on illegal drugs and deadly weapon charges.

Onwuasor, who was known among the Arizona football team as “Peanut,” has been charged with four felonies since a home invasion incident in the 2500 block of W. Anklam Road that occurred in late April.

“We are aware of the situation with Patrick Onwuasor,” head coach Rich Rodriguez said in a press release. “He has been removed from the program.”

The sophomore safety is also linked to another incident under jurisdiction of the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The Tucson Police Department served a search warrant on what is believed to be Onwuasor’s apartment in late June and found illegal substances including narcotic drugs, marijuana and a weapon. He was later charged with possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony drug offense, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

After a warrant was issued for Onwuasor’s arrest, he presented himself for arraignment and was released after the proceedings.

Onwuasor played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman last season and had 36 tackles on the year.
