Arizona football opened the season with a 58-13 home rout of UNLV.

The Wildcats broke the school record for yards with 787 yards. The previous mark was 691 yards against New Mexico in 1969.

UA redshirt freshman quarterback Anu Solomon threw for 425 yards on 25-for-44 attempts and four touchdowns and ran for 50 yards on eight carries in his Arizona debut.

Solomon set the freshman passing record with about 13 minutes left in the game. The previous record was set in 1996 by Keith Smith in four overtimes at California.

The school single-game passing record is 510 yards by Willie Tuitama in 2007 against Washington. Ten different Arizona receivers caught passes.

Redshirt senior running back Terris Jones-Grigsby, also making his first start, ran for 124 yards on 13 carries. Freshman Nick Wilson added 104 yards on seven carries in his debut.

Fourth string quarterback Connor Brewer converted a three-yard touchdown run with 1:18 left.

Redshirt junior kicker Casey Skowron kicked a 39-yard field goal with 12:38 left.

Wilson scored an 85-yard touchdown run with 43 seconds left in the third quarter, the fifth longest run in school history.

Skowron kicked a 49-yard field goal with 2:36 left in the third quarter.

Jones-Grigsby scored a two-yard touchdown with 8:48 left in the third quarter.

UNLV junior quarterback Blake Decker, who is from Mesa, Ariz., and went to Scottsdale Community College, threw for 252 yards on 22-for-41 passing and ran for 56 yards on 10 carries.

Arizona opened the second half with a 92-yard touchdown pass to redsenior receiver Austin Hill. That was tied for the third longest pass in program history.

UNLV responded with a two-yard touchdown pass that completed a six-play 75-yard scoring drive.
The Rebels closed out the first half by missing a 43-yard field goal.

Arizona extended its lead to 24-6 on a 13-yard pass to sophomore receiver DaVonte’ Neal with 50 seconds left in the first half. The Wildcats responded to UNLV’s 48-yard field goal on the previous possesion.

Skowron gave Arizona a 17-3 lead with a 28-yard field goal, atoning for an earlier miss.

UNLV got on the scoreboard with a 41-yard field goal with 12:22 left in the half. The Rebels set up the score with a 52-yard pass.

The Wildcats went up 14-0 on a 63-yard touchdown reception by sophomore receiver Samajie Grant. That capped a three-play 66-yard drive.

Arizona scored its first touchdown of the year on a 39-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Nate Phillips 1:40 left in the first quarter. The play capped a 96-yard four-play drive.

On the Wildcats’ second drive, a sure touchdown by sophomore receiver Samajie Grant was just overthrown and then, Skowron missed a 38-yard field goal.
