Another week and another loss for an Arizona Wildcat team
that looks like it’s given up on the season. 

Just a few weeks after Brandon Dawkins said he would not let Arizona miss a bowl game, that promise
has fallen through. Washington State destroyed the Wildcats 69-7 Saturday afternoon and with that loss the hopes of Arizona making it to a bowl game were swiftly dashed. 

The quarterback carousel continued this week as both Anu
Solomon and Dawkins were benched and brought back in. Dawkins ran for 48 yards
on six carries but threw for an embarrassing minus-two yards on the day. Dawkins would
leave the game in the third quarter due to an injury so his status for next
week is unknown.

Solomon started the second half and went 9-13 for 122 yards
and one touchdown in spot time. While his numbers do not look bad, he still
made the same mistakes. Whether it was overthrowing receivers or taking
outrageous sacks, Solomon still does not look like a poised veteran. Despite
being his third year in the offense, Solomon still looks like he has no rhythm
with his receivers.

Even freshman Khalil Tate made an appearance late in the
game but he played like a true freshman on the road. Tate went 1-6 for eight
yards and an interception late in the game so he didn’t stake his claim
either.

While the Solomon-Dawkins dynamic fizzled in Pullman, the Cougar’s Luke Falk sizzled throughout the game. Falk completed 22 straight
passes at one point and finished the game with more touchdowns than incompletions. In the end, Falk went 32-35 for 311 yards and four touchdowns on the day. 

Dawkins may have
beat Falk in high school out at Oak Christian High School for the starting spot, but there
is no doubt who the better quarterback was on Saturday.

There will be another quarterback “controversy” next week
when Colorado comes to town but it will not matter. Backup tight end Matt Morin
was the team’s most efficient passer going into the game so why not give him a
start? The season is over and Arizona quarterbacks are injury prone so why not
preserve their health and start Morin? It’s not like Arizona can get much
worse than 69-7.

At least Arizona fans do not have to hold out hope on
Arizona making a possible bowl berth. Many predicted Arizona would win at least
six games this year but achieving half of that is a long-shot.
