A student’s $110 leather wallet was stolen sometime between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday from his room in Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 940 E. Fifth St., reports stated.

The wallet contained $100 in cash, a $20 check and the student’s CatCard, which contained a meal plan, reports stated.

The student told police he left the door to his room unlocked at 5 p.m. when he went to a room down the hall.

The student returned around 9 p.m. and got on the Internet to buy something and noticed his wallet was not where he had left it, reports stated. The student searched his room and concluded his wallet must have been stolen.

The student told police he thought his neighbor might have taken it but didn’t have any proof. The student said even though he didn’t like his neighbor, he had been in the student’s room for several hours over the weekend, reports stated.

The student told police his neighbor’s roommate had his wallet stolen earlier in the semester and the student didn’t think it was a coincidence because his neighbor had later been seen with several $20 bills.

Police talked with the student’s neighbor, who was unable to provide any identification because he said his wallet was lost, reports stated.

The neighbor said he had had several things stolen from his room throughout the semester too, including his wallet.

Police asked the neighbor if he had reported the incidents to police and he said “”no,”” reports stated.

Police then asked him if he taken anything from the student’s room and the neighbor said no and that he had “”a great relationship”” with his neighbors and would never steal from them.

The neighbor admitted to being in the student’s room over the weekend and said he was in the room often because he was friends with both the student and his roommate, reports stated.

Police asked the neighbor if he left the student’s room with anything, and the neighbor said he had left with a change purse that belonged to him, reports stated.

Police asked the neighbor if they could see the change purse and he said he had left it inside a box of snacks at a friend’s house.

The neighbor was asked again for his ID and removed it from a pair of shorts, reports stated. Police asked the neighbor why he hadn’t given them his ID in the first place and the neighbor said he didn’t know it was in his shorts.

The neighbor said his mother must have put the ID in his shorts when she did his laundry.

As police asked the neighbor more questions, he became defensive and increasingly inconsistent with his comments, reports stated. After about 30 minutes, the neighbor refused to give any more information about the stolen wallet.

Police requested to have detectives follow up with the neighbor, reports stated.

Police have no further suspects or witnesses, reports stated.

A student was cited for speeding and driving with a suspended license and expired registration at 2:30 p.m. Sunday after police saw him driving more than 20 mph over the speed limit, reports stated.

Police were driving westbound on East Sixth Street and were stopped behind a red car at a red light at North Highland Avenue, reports stated.

When the light turned green, the car quickly accelerated away from police, reports stated. The car continued to pull away from police, who were driving 50 mph.

After the car passed North Fremont Avenue, it quickly slowed down and police turned on their lights, reports stated. The car stopped at North Park Avenue.

A records check showed the student’s license was suspended and his car’s registration was expired, reports stated.

The student said he was in a hurry because he was late for a fraternity service project and didn’t realize how fast he was going until police got behind him.

The student was cited and released, reports stated.

A key ring was found in the trunk keyhole of a green car at 3 p.m. Sunday while the car was parked south of East Fourth Street and North Vine Avenue, reports stated.

The key ring contained 12 keys, multiple key ring decorations and grocery cards, reports stated.

The owner of the vehicle couldn’t be found and the key ring was placed into property for safekeeping.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.
