    High Five for men’s tennis

The Arizona men’s tennis team added two more scratch marks under its column of wins and remained undefeated (5-0) after defeating the San Francisco Dons, 7-0, on Friday and the University of the Pacific Tigers, 6-1, on Saturday.

The amount of wins that the Wildcats have thus far in the season is already equal to their cumulative wins from last year.

“”We practiced hard and focused the whole weekend,”” senior Claudio Christen said. “”I think we (were) well prepared and (could) rely on our abilities.””

Arizona won its first three doubles matches against San Francisco (8-4, 8-4, 8-1). This upper hand gave the Wildcats a push into their singles matches, winning every last one comfortably.

The Tigers may be larger cats, but there was little doubt that they would be outweighed by the Wildcats in Saturday’s match as the fight for the first point in doubles was more of a field day for the Wildcats, easily sweeping Pacific (8-2, 8-3, 8-3).

Singles matches proved to be slightly different stories. Pacific managed to squeeze Arizona’s first singles victory out of Andres Carrasco (4-6, 6-4, 10-5).

Arizona head coach Tad Berkowitz said he was happy with the outcome and felt that the team competed well overall.
