Despite dropping its season opener, two road wins and a series victory against Southeastern Conference member Georgia boosted the Arizona baseball team to the top spot in yet another poll. Baseball America named the Wildcats the top team yesterday after ranking Arizona No. 2 in the publication’s preseason rankings.
Former Baseball America No. 1 UCLA dropped to No. 3 after going 1-1 in its opening two games. Arizona and the Bruins are the only two teams in the top five with a loss. The remaining top five teams are Mississippi at No. 2 and North Carolina and Missouri in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
With this new No. 1 ranking, the Wildcats now hold the top spot in three polls. Arizona is also ranked in three other polls rounding off the top five in two others while sitting in the eighth position on Rivals.com’s current poll.
