SILVERDALE – No one was hurt in a crash Monday night that sent two vehicles barreling into the oncoming lanes of Highway 3, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers were called to the highway near the Trigger Avenue interchange at about 6:30 p.m. They said a 1996 Crown Victoria, driven by a 30-year-old Bremerton man, attempted to change lanes while headed north on the highway and struck two vehicles also headed north — a 2005 Ford F-150 and a 2007 Chrysler Sebring.
The impact of the crash pushed the Crown Victoria and the F-150, driven by a 21-year-old Texas man, into the highway’s median. The two vehicles traveled over the cable barrier, crossed oncoming traffic and came to rest in a ditch, troopers said. The Sebring, driven by a 51-year-old Poulsbo woman, didn’t cross the median.
A fourth car, a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer headed north on the highway with a 28-year-old Bremerton man behind the wheel, was sprayed with debris from the crash, which happened in front of the SUV, troopers said.
But all the drivers were OK, troopers said. And while the Crown Victoria was destroyed, the other vehicles involved were all driven from the scene.
All drivers were wearing seat belts and intoxicants aren’t believed to be factors in the crash.
Troopers said the cause of the crash was an unsafe lane change by the 30-year-old Bremerton man. The crash remains under investigation.
