Things might have changed since you were last at the UA — more people, more buildings and, perhaps most notably, more restaurants. The options are practically endless these days, with a new eatery popping up on every corner. Odds are you won’t be able to try them all, so here’s a quick list of the ones you shouldn’t miss:
Pizza Studio
1031 N. Park Ave.
Sunday to Wednesday: 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Thursday to Saturday: 10:30 a.m. to midnight
Located just a few blocks off campus, Pizza Studio isn’t your average pizza place. Customers can create their own cheese-covered wonders as they choose between a variety of toppings, crusts, sauces and cheeses. You’ll get an authentic feel of what the average night is like as students come wandering in at all hours.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop
1031 N. Park Ave.
Seven days a week: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
If you’re in the mood for a fulfilling sandwich or bowl of soup, then Potbelly is the place to go. With a variety of subs, smoothies and baked goods, Potbelly won’t let your hunger hang around for long.
Pieology
914 E. Speedway Blvd.
Monday to Thursday: 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
As the name might suggest, pizza is the name of the game here. Despite its short time near the UA, it has already become a favorite among eager students with big appetites. Pop in to see some of its unique pies and whip up something creative. Be bold and try some of its unique flavor blasts of barbecue sauce or ranch dressing, and see if that doesn’t get some excitement stirring in your stomach.
The Coronet
402 E. Ninth St.
Tuesday and Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursday to Saturday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you are in the mood to venture a ways off campus, Fourth Avenue never disappoints. At the southern end, a brasserie-style restaurant with a self-described old-world cuisine featuring a full bar and peaceful music. With a featured Happy Hour, morning, afternoon, brunch, evening and drink menus, you’ll be hard-pressed to come up empty.
US Fries
340 N. Fourth Ave.
Sunday to Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Thursday to Saturday: 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
Halfway down Fourth Avenue is another new member to come to the Tucson food scene. If you love fries but have always felt they were lacking something, then you might want to cross US Fries off your list. From the traditional plate to chili fries, cheeseburger fries to triple pork fries, the possibilities are endless. If you’ve ever wondered what bacon or roast beef tasted like on a plate of fries, look no further.
