Two students caught having oral sex outside Yuma Residence Hall
A resident assistant in Maricopa Residence Hall reported seeing a man and woman having sex on the hall lawn at 12:45 a.m. on Friday. When officers from the University of Arizona Police Department arrived, the woman had already entered the hall. The 19-year-old man was found south of Maricopa, wearing his shorts inside out. The officer told the man he wasn’t under arrest, but was being detained in an investigation.
The subject said he had been walking to the UA Student Union at 12:15 a.m. to catch a cab to his friend’s apartment, but saw two women sitting on the lawn between Maricopa and Yuma. He then sat down and talked with the women, whom he did not know. Later, one of the woman asked the other to go inside Maricopa while she stayed behind and continued to talk with the man. He said the two began making out, then he pulled his shorts and underwear down to his ankles. The woman also undressed, though she kept her underwear on.
According to the man, the woman sat on the grass next to him while he was lying down and began performing oral sex on him. He said it was consensual and that vaginal penetration did not occur.
The incident occurred about 15 feet from the sidewalk leading to Yuma’s front door. The man said a few residents walked by, but did not act as if what was happening was unusual. After several minutes, the woman said, “I don’t want anymore” and the man responded, “OK” as she walked into Maricopa.
While they spoke, the UAPD officer smelled alcohol on the man’s breath. He told the officer that the girl appeared to be about 19 years old and had curly, brown, shoulder-length hair. He also told the officer that he had been drinking beer prior to meeting the two women, but would not provide more details. He thought the woman he was with had also likely been drinking because she slurred her words. The officer did not find or identify the woman.
While the officer wrote a citation for minor in possession in body, the man began to cry, saying he felt like the rapist who had assaulted him years before. He refused to speak to anyone about the incident, but asked the officer to call his father. The officer explained to the man’s father what happened, that there was no victim in the incident and that his son was cited and released for an alcohol violation.
UofA Bookstore security snags sunglasses swiper
A UA student was arrested on shoplifting charges at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21. The man allegedly stole a pair of sunglasses from the UofA Bookstore, but was caught soon after by security.
A UAPD officer was sent to the bookstore, where he found the student sitting in a conference room. The student admitted to sticking the pair of sunglasses in the pocket of his pants and walking out of the store without paying for them. Bookstore security caught him outside. The sunglasses had been on a sale rack with many other pairs, but the price sticker was easily readable.
The man was arrested. The entire incident was caught on DVD by bookstore surveillance and the DVD copy was given to the UAPD officer as evidence.
Student gets MIP, stays silent on leg scrape
An 18-year-old UA student was cited and released for minor in possession of spirituous liquor at 12:43 a.m. on Friday.
A UAPD officer noticed two fellow officers assisting the woman with bandaging up a minor cut on her leg. The observing officer then went to the woman to look at her injury, which was a minor, bleeding scrape on her left leg. She said she received the scrape after falling.
As she spoke, the officer smelled alcohol coming from her mouth. She told officers she was 18 years old and understood her Miranda Rights, yet wouldn’t answer any questions regarding the incident.
Her speech was slurred, her eyes were bloodshot and she swayed back and forth. She signed her citation and was then escorted back to Coronado Residence Hall.
