The victim of Wednesday’s hit-and-run accident died from his injuries last night at 8:30 p.m. in University Medical Center.
John W. Hemphill, 72, was struck by a car just before 11 a.m. as he was crossing the street near East Water Street and North Campbell Avenue, said Tucson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Mark Robinson.
The driver of the vehicle, Charles Christopher Hodges, 19, was charged for leaving the scene of an accident shortly after the incident, said Robinson.
“”(Hodges) was charged for leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries or death,”” said Robinson. “”The death doesn’t change the charge.””
Hodge’s 16-year-old girlfriend, who was sitting in the passenger seat when the accident occurred, was not charged in the incident, Robinson said.
