It’s no wonder Young the Giant has a sold-out show at the Rialto Theatre tonight. The musicians reflect rock and indie music through their hipster-meets-rock star style.

Tonight is the Southern California-based band’s second show at the Rialto.

Young the Giant is well known for its quality live shows. The band has already sold out many of its shows on the current tour, and is closing the tour at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Del. This will not be Young The Giant’s first time at a music festival, as it has previously performed at renowned festivals such as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza, where it received outstanding responses from audiences.

Band members Sameer Gadhia (vocals), Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar), Payam Doostzadeh (bass) and Francois Comtois (drums) released their debut album in 2010 titled Young the Giant. Young the Giant propelled itself into the world of rock ‘n’ roll with this album, its accompanying single “My Body” and its most well-known song, “Cough Syrup,” which peaked at No. 2 in alternative.

In January, it released its most recent album, Mind Over Matter, with the Grammy-nominated producer of Paramore, Beck, Nine Inch Nails and M83, Justin Meldal-Johnsen.

This album features the lead single “It’s About Time,” which, according to Comtois, is “certainly the most aggressive song on the album.” Mind Over Matter is similar to Young the Giant’s earlier work, but it spends more time highlighting the driving guitars — both rhythm and lead.

The lyrics in Mind Over Matter are magnetic. Gadhia told Rolling Stone that the band took inspiration mainly from Radiohead and D’Angelo during the production of this album. The band highlights both Radiohead’s seriousness and D’Angelo’s experience.

Tonight, the combination of Young the Giant’s famous stage presence and the Rialto’s atmosphere promises to be an audience favorite.
The Rialto continues its tradition of entertainment as it welcomes Young the Giant to its 94-year-old stage. The theater, which opened in 1920, is one of the most historic buildings in Tucson. According to rialtotheatre.com, “providing entertainment for the common man has been the ethos of the Rialto since its construction.” The Rialto has previously headlined groups such as Vampire Weekend, The Black Keys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, Snoop Dogg, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Pentatonix, Ed Sheeran and Steve Vai. The standing arena on the bottom floor of the theater is a space where music lovers have gathered over many decades.

Young the Giant is sure to leave a lasting effect on the Rialto and Tucson.
