Arizona beach volleyball saw a beacon of hope for its season on Saturday morning after day two of the LSU tournament. The ‘Cats went 2-0 on the day, defeating both Central Arkansas and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi by scores of 4-1. 

The match saw a dominant performance by the No. 3 pair, Stephany Purdue and Hailey Devlin in both of the games in Baton Rouge.

The experienced, senior tandem went 2-0 on the day, defeating Central Arkansas’ Delaney Driver and MC Rogers in a two-set sweep, 21-16 in both of the sets. In their second game, they defeated Corpus Christi’s Maya Daukas and Madi Fitzsimmons by a score of 21-15 in the first set and 21-16 in the second set.

Devlin and Purdue stepped up for the Wildcats this weekend as they went 4-0 as a pair. They played as the No. 3 pair for a very dominant Arizona program.

The No. 1 pair, Olivia Macdonald and Natalie Anselmo also went 2-0 on the day. They defeated Central Arkansas’ Haley Tippett and Megan Nash in a two set-sweep (21-16 and 21-15). In their second game, they defeated Corpus Christi’s Abigail Devido and Selina Marolf 21-18 in the first set and 21-19 in the second set.

Freshman Jonny Baham and sophomore Brooke Burling also went 2-0 this morning and 4-0 on the weekend. They won their first set against Central Arkansas’ Mackenzie Dear and Shelby Holmes by a score of 21-14 in the first set and 21-13 in the second set. Their second game against Corpus Christi paralleled their first, winning 21-13 in the first set and 21-12 in the second set.

After their 3-1 performance (losing to No. 10 LSU) this weekend in Baton Rouge, the ‘Cats move to 12-8 on the season.

Arizona beach volleyball is back in action this weekend at home in the Wildcat Spring Challenge as they compete against Stetson, ASU, Colorado Mesa, and Cal.
