The Arizona men’s golf team couldn’t overcome a sluggish start to the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational, as it took 14th place out of the 18-team field.
Georgia, with a cumulative score of 3 over par, won the event held at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla. The Bulldogs, led by tournament winner Russell Henley and his score of 4 under par, beat second-place Alabama by 17 strokes.
USC was the highest-finishing school from the Pacific 10 Conference, as the Trojans took fifth place with a score of 30 over par.
No member of the Wildcats’ five-player squad shot better than a 4-over-par 76 during the opening round, but after an opening-round 7 over par, sophomore Tarquin MacManus fought back to finish in a tie for 23rd place individually, playing the final 36 holes at 1 over to finish with a 8-over-par 224.
Not far behind was fellow sophomore Roberto Galletti, who was two strokes back in a tie for 28th. Rounding out the field for Arizona were sophomore Jonathan Khan, who placed in a tie for 52nd place with a 14 over and senior Tyler Neal, who tied for 72nd place along with junior Brad Nicholson with a 19 over par.
The next tournament for Arizona will be Nov. 3-5 at the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif.
