The University of Arizona women’s soccer team claimed a dominant 5-1 victory over Kansas State University on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 11:30 a.m. for the Wildcats’ last match at home in the regular season. The Wildcats are now 10-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the Big 12. 

The Wildcats started this match off strong after falling in their recent 4-0 loss to the University of Kansas. Just one minute into the game, Nicole Dallin scored a goal to put Arizona on the board first. Shortly after, Kansas State came back and evened out the score 1-1 in the eighth minute of the game. Arizona and Kansas State looked strong on both sides of the field. 

Megan Chelf dominated the field in the first half, laying in a second goal to put the Wildcats ahead 2-1.

Aggressiveness from both programs caused multiple fouls to be called on each team. Chelf was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, receiving a yellow card. Arizona was awarded a penalty kick, which Gianna Christiansen kicked as it went in, extending the lead 3-1 going into halftime.

In the second half, Arizona continued to shut out Kansas State. In the 53rd minute, freshman Narissa Fults scored a goal, helping Arizona extend the lead to 4-1.

From there on out, the Wildcats were in control of the match. Topping off the game, Maia Brown scored the last goal of the day, putting Arizona at 5-1. 

Looking ahead

Arizona will be heading back on the road as the Wildcats take a short trip to Tempe to play ASU on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. This will be the last regular season match for the Wildcats before the Big 12 Soccer Championship in Kansas City, Mo. on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
