UA looking long-term with expansion

Changes to campus include new residence halls, a new medical school, rec center expansions, connections to downtown, and renovations

The UA campus will see a few new construction projects unveiled over the next few months, as well as ambitious endeavors in the future, as the high pace of building on campus continues to make room for the future needs of the university. The changes to campus range from renovations and additions to completely new spaces and all reflect the university's anticipation of its growth to come.

'Phoenix' team cautious after instrument glitch

Mission scientists are treating the UA-led Phoenix Lander's much anticipated delivery of ice-rich soil to its test ovens with extra caution after the team discovered a short circuit in the instrument. According to a statement released Wednesday, a team assessing 'Phoenix' discovered a short circuit in its Thermal and Evolved Gas Analyzer (TEGA) and concluded that another short circuit could occur when it is used again.

Model lander puts 'Mars' here on Earth

Rick McCloskey, a mission engineer for the UA-led Phoenix Lander, grabbed a knee-length sky blue lab coat from a rack in his computer lab without so much as looking. Lab coats are part of the routine. It all had to do with ESD, he said. Then he paused. "Electrostatic discharges," he added.

Traditional, edgy sculpture brought together at UAMA

What is an art medium that pops out at you and makes you walk around it to absorb the different moods that each side of it conveys? It is sculpture, and the UA Museum of Art is showcasing the best of its collection in "Of Flesh, Form and Matter." While this exhibition certainly has its share of perky breasts and idealized forms, the greatest thing about sculpture is its interpretation of stillness in action.

UofA Bookstore 'engulfed' by David Sedaris fans

Uproarious laughter erupted throughout the UofA Bookstore on Tuesday as nearly 1,000 people arrived to listen to National Public Radio contributor and humorist David Sedaris, as well as to grab signed copies of his new book, "When You Are Engulfed in Flames.

UA students shed light on roller derby reality

A whistle sounds and the echo of little red wheels kicking off the flat track fill the circular stadium, making the voices of the nearby crowd temporarily fade. The only noise comes blasting over a microphone as the announcer comments on the status of the girls in the bout.
