Arizona football player Antoine Cason has never been shy about being a role model in the local community. Now he's taking that part to a new level, raising money for the American Cancer Society in memory of his role model. Cason lost his grandfather, Royce Rambo, to myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of leukemia, on Feb.

State holds first official summit to curb smoking in LGBT community

Lesbian, gay, bi-affectionate and transgender community smoking rates are 50 percent higher for men and 200 percent higher for women than those of the heterosexual community, according to the 2003 California LGBT Tobacco Survey. These high statistics were the reason for a LGBT Leadership Forum on Tuesday titled, "Coming Out of the Smoke.

UA students join effort to urge safe credit usage

Students and national petitioners joined forces yesterday on the UA Mall to try to encourage others to eliminate unfair credit card marketing on college campuses. At the event, one of 34 that occurred at universities around the nation, students were encouraged to sign a petition supporting the adoption of a policy to limit the number of credit card companies that come to campus and encourage them to provide informational material and fewer gimmicks.

Safety lessons subject of sorority-sponsored event

Students got an extra lesson in safety last night at "Sorority Safe Night," featured presentations from the University of Arizona Police Department in the Social Sciences building. Hosted by Kappa Alpha Theta and the Panhellenic Council in the Social Sciences Building, the event addressed a variety of topics including how to avoid assault, forming reaction plans and situation analysis.
