Seventy-four percent of participating University of Indiana students were able to correctly sniff out their own shirts from a pile of stinky laundry. This dropped to 50 percent for students who smoked more than 10 cigarettes per day. A 2005 study revealed that women wearing the scent of pink grapefruit were perceived by men to be six years younger than their actual age. Our ability to perceive odors is least acute in the morning and increases as the day goes on. Only about 10 percent of the Japanese population have detectable body odor and, until recently, young men belonging to that small odiferant segment could be disqualified from military service. A man with an eye for a particular woman should learn what cologne her father wears. Women are subconsciously drawn to men who smell like their father.
