Couldn’t stay away
A UA student was arrested, cited and released for third degree criminal trespassing at the UofA Bookstore on Sept. 11 at approximately 5:22 p.m.
Around 5:09 p.m., an officer from the University of Arizona Police Department responded to the bookstore in reference to an unwanted person, where a bookstore employee said she and another employee had observed the student shoplift screen cleaner from the bookstore on Sept. 3.
The employees had contacted him, but after determining the item was only $1.99, they decided not to contact UAPD and to handle the situation through the Dean of Students.
One of the employees told the officer he had advised the student not to return to the bookstore until he had documentation from the Dean of Students advising he had taken care of his shoplifting charge.
But on Wednesday, an employee had been walking around the bookstore on the main floor and noticed the student had returned. When the employee contacted him, he said he knew he wasn’t supposed to be in the store, but that he was shopping with his girlfriend and didn’t think it was a big deal.
The officer then spoke with the student and asked if he knew why the officer was there.
The student said he knew he was not supposed to return to the bookstore until he had finished with the Dean of Students. He was placed under arrest for third degree criminal trespassing and advised not to return to the bookstore until he had documentation from the Dean of Students.
Secret spandex
A UA student was cited and released for minor in possession on Sept. 12 in the parking lot of a residence hall at 11:50 p.m.
UAPD officers were patrolling the area when a woman, later identified as a UA student, exited the front seat of a taxi cab holding a red cup. When she saw the officers, she immediately turned around and started walking away.
One of the officers stepped in front of her and noticed the cup was no longer in her hand. When asked where the cup was she lifted up the front of her shirt and produced the cup from inside the front of her spandex shorts.
When she handed the cup to the officer, some of the liquid, which smelled like alcohol, splashed on the officer’s hand. The woman also smelled like alcohol and said she had been drinking vodka at an off-campus party.
The officer asked the taxi cab driver where he had picked up the group of people who were still in the van, and was told it was at a house party. The officer cited and released the woman for minor in possession.
