Resting up for game day
A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to the UA Main Library at 2:08 a.m. on Oct. 9 about a suspicious man sleeping on a couch on the third floor. When the officer arrived at the scene, he spoke with the employee who had called in the report. She said she had tried to wake the man, since the library was closed to the public at the time, but he didn’t respond.
The 29-year-old man later identified himself to the UAPD officer with an Arizona ID. After the officer performed a records check on the man, he found two warrants from the Tucson Police Department, one was drinking in public and the other for failure to appear on charges of trespassing.
The man was then arrested and taken to Pima County Jail.
He was also issued an exclusionary order for a six-month period based on his TPD warrants and past episodes of disturbing the peace and drinking on campus. The officer explained that he would be arrested on charges of criminal trespassing if he visited any UA property within the next six months. The man responded, “I’m going to fucking come back anyway, I’m going to the fucking game.”
A shady skulker and shattered glass
A 30-year-old woman reported that someone had shattered the front window of her white Hyundai Tiburon at 11:20 a.m. on Oct. 3. She was parked in the parking lot at Fort Lowell Road and Mountain Avenue.
When a UAPD officer met her there, the student said that she had parked her vehicle in the parking lot at 7:10 a.m. and was the only one parked in the lot that morning. After parking, she walked to the Cat Tran shuttle stop across from the parking lot to catch a ride to campus.
At 8:50 a.m. she received a phone call from a friend, who told her that her window had been shattered. The student called UAPD as soon as she got back to her car.
The next day, the student reported some suspicious activity to UAPD after she saw a white man in the parking lot who she said was acting strange and followed her to the Cat Tran shuttle stop. When he saw other people at the stop, he left the area.
The student said that the man may have been the one who shattered her window, because he knows which vehicle she drives.
The student told the officer she wanted to prosecute if they found who broke her window, but there are no suspects at this time.
Totally not shoplifting
A UAPD officer went to the UofA Bookstore at 1:47 p.m. on Oct. 8 in response to a reported shoplifter. When the officer arrived, the 18-year-old man was in the custody of loss prevention staff, and identified himself with a Maryland driver’s license.
The man told the officer that he had been shopping in the bookstore and saw some Arizona tube socks that he wanted, but didn’t want to pay for. He put two pairs of the socks in his backpack and left the store without paying. He said that he didn’t intend to shoplift and has never shoplifted from the bookstore before.
The loss prevention employee told the officer that the man brought the socks into the dressing room, then put them in his backpack and left the store. The man was cited and released for shoplifting, and was told that he could be arrested for trespassing if he returned to the bookstore.
