After an up-and-down season, the Arizona baseball team finished runner up in the Pac-12 Tournament and ended the season with a record of 33-24. However, the Wildcats closed the season winning seven of their last nine games, with wins over Stanford University, USC, the University of California Irvine, Oregon State University and ASU. Their hot streak to close the season was enough to earn them a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the 42nd time in program history.
The Wildcats waited nearly 30 minutes until the final region was announced to hear their name called, as many had predicted the Wildcats to be one of the first teams left out of the NCAA Tournament.
The Selection Committee awarded the Wildcats with one of the final four spots in the tournament, over teams including USC, UC Irvine and ASU, whom Arizona went 4-1 against in the final two weeks of the season. Both UC Irvine and ASU were among the first four teams left out of the tournament.
The Wildcats were placed in the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by No. 3 overall seed University of Arkansas (41-16). The region also includes Santa Clara University (35-18) and Texas Christian University (37-22). Arizona will face off against the latter in their opening game.
