Player of the week: Hope Hisey, goalkeeper, Arizona soccer

Hope Hisey is a fifth-year goalkeeper for Arizona soccer. She has played in every minute of every game since the 2021 season. Hisey is a 3x Pac-12 goalkeeper of the week, and in her freshman year she was Pac-12 All-Freshman. Last week, Hisey tied the program’s saves record with six saves in the game against USC on Sunday, Oct. 22, bringing her career total to 345 saves.

“To do it on a senior day means a lot to me,” Hisey said post-game.

Her catching and diving abilities have been key to her success. Her dedication to the game and her desire to win has kept Arizona competitive in most, if not all, of their games during her time here. Hisey is originally from Tucson, making her a sort of hometown hero. Hisey’s mom has yet to miss one of her games at Arizona. Sunday’s game was also senior day, which means that was her last time playing on Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.

Team of the week: Men’s Basketball vs. Lewis-Clark State College

The Arizona men’s basketball team won its first exhibition game of the season. Arizona played Lewis-Clark State College and beat them 110-70 on Friday, Oct. 20, in the McKale Center. Key players from Friday’s game include Caleb Love, Keshad Johnson and Kylan Boswell.

Love had four rebounds, seven assists and shot nine of 12 with 23 points. Boswell also played a really good game; scoring 15 points and grabbing five rebounds. Johnson had four steals, five assists and 19 points. The Warriors gave a good effort in the first half, but it slowly began to fade as the point differential increased. The Wildcats did a great job securing the win. This gives them good momentum going into their last exhibition game next week. Winning without some of the team’s stars just shows how talented the roster is. Oumar Ballo, Pelle Larsson and Motiejus Krivas were all out due to injuries.
