The No. 13 University of Arizona softball team (40-10, 14-7 in Big 12) earned one win and one loss throughout a two day series against San Diego State University (30-16). The Wildcats traveled to San Diego, California to play the Aztecs at Mountain West Network from Friday, April 25 to Saturday, April 26. Arizona won their first game 1-0 but fell to San Diego State 1-0 on Saturday.
Day 1: Arizona 1, San Diego State 0
Arizona and SDSU locked into a defensive battle on day one of the series. Six innings passed without a single point added to the board from either program.
Devyn Netz struck gold in the seventh inning with a solo home run, her 17th of the season.
Netz pulled through on the mound in the bottom of the seventh where she struck out two batters, earning Arizona the win.
Netz struck out five and allowed three hits to pick up her 19th win from the circle. Notably, Reagan Shockey went 2-for-3 at the plate, adding to Arizona’s five collective hits recorded for the game.
Day 2: Arizona 0, San Diego State 1
The pitching duel continued on day two. Dakota Kennedy earned the first hit of the game in the fourth inning but no score followed.
SDSU scored in the fifth off a fielding error. The Wildcats tried to claw back in the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to rally for the win.
Ryan Maddox pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four hits while striking out three Aztecs. Netz pitched the last 1.2 innings in relief.
