The University of Arizona women’s soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over NAU in their first exhibition matchup of the season in Flagstaff on Aug. 5.
Sophomore forward Jessica Bedolla found the net to put Arizona in the lead with an assist from senior midfielder Sami Baytosh. Arizona was able to hold NAU off throughout the remainder of the match, earning their first shutout of the season.
The Wildcats dominated the pitch in the first half, keeping the Lumberjacks from getting a single shot off. In the second half, Arizona’s goalkeeper Sofia Cortes-Browne played a key role in keeping the score in their favor.
As a whole, Arizona recorded 18 shots in comparison to NAU’s 4. This game marked a strong start entering into the Wildcats’ fall season.
Looking ahead
Arizona is set to face the University of Las Vegas in the Wildcats’ first official game of the season on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at Murphey Field. This will be the two programs’ first meeting with each other since 2003.
