At-large Senator Eddie Barrón called attention to an event welcoming Democratic Congressional nominee for AZ District 7, Adelita Grijalva. Co-hosted by UA College Democrats and UA Planned Parenthood General Action, this event will take place at Gentle Ben’s on Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. More information on how to register can be found on the UACD or UA PPGA Instagram accounts.
W.A. Franke Honors College Senator Aparna Chandresekar highlighted the Honors UNIV 101 curriculum change, which will have a template and mock course for spring 2026. Last school year, John Pollard, the Dean of Franke, and other advisors met once a week to begin revising the curriculum.
“We wanted to reshape the course to revolve more on what a first-year student really needs to know about campus and how to thrive as a student,” Chandresekar said.
The goal of the committee is to have the class fully up and running by fall 2026. Chandrasekar noted that this change in the Honors UNIV 101 curriculum will have no impact on the standard UNIV 101 courses.
The Senate recapped their recent lunch with the College Deans and the Provost, allowing senators to connect and facilitate collaboration and cooperation between student representatives and administration.
“I think this was a really great experience as a senator being able to not just build connections with my own dean, but to be able to speak with other deans and other senators,” Eller College of Management Senator Janhavi Mehta said.
“It gave a sense of perspective,” College of Science Senator Elizabeth Ghartey said. “And I was able to connect with the human side of administration as well.”
The Senators were reminded of the ASUA open house on Sept. 18th from noon to 2 p.m. This event will take place in the ASUA office in the Student Union Memorial Center. Students are encouraged to connect with senators and other representatives to ask questions and better get to know their student government.
