The University of Arizona volleyball team (6-3) are back on the road facing the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. in the John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
History vs. Nebraska
The Wildcats and Huskers had their first match on Sept. 16, 1983, where Arizona claimed the first win 3-2. Since then, the two teams have played six games where Nebraska has taken victory every time. The last time they played was Sept. 6, 2019, in San Diego, Calif., where the Wildcats fell short 3-1.
Nebraska this season
The Huskers are going into this match with an undefeated season 9-0. Coming off of a 3-2 win against No. 18 Creighton University on Tuesday, Sept. 16, Nebraska’s Harper Murray was essential with 17 kills and 10 digs along with Bergen Reilly who had 43 assists and 19 digs.
After a successful 2024 season, Nebraska has made exciting roster changes welcoming Campbell Flynn, the top-ranked setter in the country; and Teraya Sigler, an outside hitter who was the number one recruit this season. Alongside with the new freshmen are standout returning players Reilly and Murray, along with middle blockers Andi Jackson and Rebekah Allick. Murray has the team record for seven aces and hitting .275.
Wildcats this season
After a strong start to the season, the Wildcats have lost three consecutive matches. Arizona took on University of Texas at El Paso on Sept. 16, in McKale Center where they lost 3-1. Standout player Jordan Wilson was vital each set with 14 kills and eight digs with a .125 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Carlie Cisneros was second to Wilson, tallying 11 kills with a .161 hitting percentage. After setting the Arizona record for freshman digs last year, Cisneros has been important to the team’s success.
According to head coach Charita Stubbs, the team needs to work on their team and individual confidence before taking on Nebraska.
