The University of Arizona men’s tennis team competed in the Fayetteville 15K from Sept. 15-20, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where the Wildcats saw back-to-back losses, falling in the first round. The tournament included both singles and doubles competition. While the competition might not be considered officially part of the NCAA, it is a great chance for players to see their strengths and improve their skills before the season begins in November.
Singles
Junior Glib Sekachov and freshman Alejandro Arcila were the two men who qualified for singles from Arizona. However, both of the men lost in the first round, with Sekachov losing to North Carolina State University’s Braden Shick (7-6, 7-5) and Arcila falling to TCU’s Albert Pedrico Kravtsov (6-1,6-3). Despite the early exits of both men, both Wildcats gained valuable experience on the national stage that will fuel their drive for future competition
Looking ahead
The men’s tennis team kicked off their ITA All-Americans tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that will last from Sept. 20-28. The Fayetteville 15K served as an important stepping stone and the Wildcats now look to carry those lessons into a strong showing at the ITA All-Americans.
