The University of Arizona volleyball (8-5, 2-1 in Big 12) will compete against the University of Colorado Boulder this Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. in McKale Center.
History vs. Colorado
Boulder and Arizona have a long history together as they first saw each other on Sept. 14, 1990 in Tucson where Arizona won in three sets. Since then, the Buffs and Wildcats have faced each other 27 times. Arizona’s longest winning streak against the Buffs lasted five matches from 1990–2012. The two teams last saw each other Nov. 21, 2024 where the Wildcats also won 3-0 in Boulder at the CU Events Center.
Colorado this season
The Buffs are coming into this game after a 3-0 win on Saturday, Oct. 4 against the University of Houston. Junior attacker Ana Burilović tallied 11 kills against Houston. She also has the most kills of the season so far at 249.
The Buffs have had some important roster updates this season with senior players departing the team, such as outside hitter Taylor Simpson. In exchange, the team welcomed junior transfer Burilović who was previously named All Big-12 Second Team in 2024.
So far this season, the standout players for the Buffs are Burilović, Sydney Jordan and Sarah Morton. Jordan is behind Burilović with the second most kills of the season at 137 kills. Morton is a strong defensive player with 182 digs for the season.
Arizona this season
Arizona has had a great start to their conference season. The Wildcats took their second Big 12 win against the University of Utah last Thursday, Oct. 2 where they beat the Utes in five sets.
Senior Jordan Wilson is having an impressive conference season so far tallying 41 kills, followed by Carlie Cisneros who has 26 kills. Sophomore Brenna Ginder is essential for Arizona’s defense with 42 digs, getting 3.5 digs per set.
As the Wildcats come into their second conference home game, they hope to keep up the momentum from their game against Utah.
