The University of Arizona softball team returned to Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 10, as the team played their Red and Blue Scrimmage with players new and old returning to the field in a friendly opening to the team’s fall ball season.
The first game in the park after getting knocked out of the Tucson Regional in last year’s post-season, nothing but smiles were worn by the players as they all huddled together before the game as a team to garner morale before heading to the dugout.
Speaking of apparel, the team brought a wide array of uniforms to play in. Each color represented a different set of players.
The blue uniformed players included utility player Regan Shockey and catcher Sydney Stewart, while the red uniformed boasted infielder Tayler Biehl and catcher Emma Kavanagh.
Plenty of change came in the offseason as Arizona had a total of 10 players leave and six new additions to the roster.
All of the pitchers wore white to separate themselves from either team, which allowed them to pitch regardless of the inning.
Although she was a catcher at the University of Connecticut, Grace Jenkins could be seen playing first base for the blue team. The official roster has her under utility.
New players included pitchers Jenae Berry and Jalen Adams taking the mound for their first time in Tucson, coming to the team from the University of Indiana and University of Iowa, respectively.
Even some of the freshman players got their chance to shine. Pitcher Rylie Holder got her time on the mound, outfielder Molli Daley played as a blue uniform in the outfield and infielder Sina Talataina stood at first base in a red uniform.
