The University of Arizona volleyball team (11-7, 5-3 in Big 12) will return home after three games away to compete against their rivals No. 6 ASU. The teams will match up on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m. in McKale Center.
History vs. ASU
The rivalry between the teams began on Sept. 30, 1977, in Tempe where the Wildcats lost 2-0. Since then, the two programs have played each other 110 times, marking this game as their 111th match against each other.
The last match up seen between Arizona and ASU was on Oct. 24, 2024, in McKale Center where ASU won in four sets. Over the last 48 years, the Arizona Wildcats have collected 59 wins and 51 losses against ASU.
ASU this season
The Sun Devils are having an exceptional conference season going undefeated 7-0 for Big 12 games and having a winning streak of 10 matches.
They are coming off of a win against the University of Utah on Saturday, Oct. 18, where ASU won against the Utes in four sets. Opposite hitter Noemie Glover tallied the highest number of kills at 17, recording a .484 hitting percentage as well as tying for the highest number of blocks at six.
ASU welcomed eight new players this year, signing five transfers and one freshman back in January and two fall signees. The most notable player added was senior outside hitter Tatum Parrott. Parrott transferred from GCU where she set GCU’s Division 1 record for kills totalling 1,233 throughout her career.
This season’s standout players for the Sundevils are Glover and outside hitter Bailey Miller. Both players have exceeded 200 kills this year; with Glover totaling 205 and Miller with 204.
Arizona this season
The Wildcats are coming into this match after a devastating 3-0 loss against Iowa State University on Thursday, Oct. 23. Arizona fought hard with Jordan Wilson leading the team with 14 kills followed by Carlie Cisneros with 12 kills.
Not only did Wilson lead the game against Iowa State, but she also leads the team with the most kills this conference season with 128. Additionally, sophomore Brenna Ginder is leading the defense with 107 conference season digs. With the anticipation of this matchup, the Wildcats look to get back in the win column as they host the Sun Devils.
