The University of Arizona women’s basketball team will host Grambling State University on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in McKale Center. The Wildcats look to stay undefeated by winning this game and moving to 3-0 this season.
History vs. Grambling State
The first ever meeting of the Wildcats and the Tigers was in 2014, then again in 2016. Last year, Arizona played Grambling State and won 84-60. In all three games, Arizona has one by over 10 points. Their largest margin of victory came from their win in 2016, where they won 73-46.
Tigers to watch
Grambling State is led by junior Monica Marsh from Plano, Texas. The 5-foot-5 shooting guard was previously at Trinity Valley Community College before transferring to Grambling State this season. In her time at Trinity Valley, Marsh averaged 15.4 points per game on 37.1% shooting from the field. She also averaged 33.9% shooting from 3-point range.
In Grambling States’s game against University of North Texas earlier this season, Marsh went off for 22 points and 8-8 on free throw attempts. By scoring 22 points, she nearly scored half of the entire team score in their loss of 89-49.
Wildcats to watch
The Wildcats are led by 5-foot-7 guard Mickalya Perdue, a graduate student from Springfield, Ohio. During her time at Cleveland State University last season, Perdue averaged 20 points per game, 3.3 assists per game and was named the Horizon League Player of the Year. She also earned First Team All-Horizon League honors.
This season, Perdue has picked up right where she left off last season. She leads the team by averaging 17 points per game on 40% shooting. Additionally, Perdue is 33% from 3-point range this season.
