The Arizona gymnastics team held their annual Red and Blue showcase on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. in McKale Center. This showcase debuted the 2026 team before they officially kickstart their season in less than a month. The blue team won the showcase with 177.225. The red team collected 167.800.
This season, the Gymcats announced they are bringing back their Arizona Stick. Whenever they stick a landing, audience members stand up and clap twice, then yell, “Arizona Stick”.
Vault
Junior Sophia Maisel scored 9.825 for the red team on vault. Tirzah Wise was the first up for the blue team on vault scoring 9.800. Emma Strom from the blue team scored 9.850. Sophomore Olivia Childs was next up, finishing with a score of 9.800.
Uneven bars
The blue team went first on the uneven bars. Wise scored 9.800 for the blue team’s first go on bars. She was followed by junior Abigayle Martin, who scored 9.875. Maisel scored 9.850 for the red team on uneven bars. Sophomore Aubrey Krohnfeldt got the first “Arizona Stick” of the afternoon, scoring 9.925 for the red team.
Floor
Wise started off strong for the blue team on the floor with a 9.850. Freshman Hillary Puleo scored 9.825 on the floor. Strom finished it up for the blue team on the floor with a 9.900.
Redshirt senior Elizabeth LaRusso kicked on the floor for the red team with a 9.850. Riley Carman scored 9.875 for the red team, while Sophie Derr finished off the floor with a 9.850.
Balance beam
The red team opened up on the balance beam with Maisel, who received the second Arizona Stick and scored 9.925. Gianna Lenczner immediately followed up with another “Arizona Stick” scoring 9.825. Derr scored 9.850 for the red team, followed by Jillian Silvers, who scored 9.900.
Teagan White opened up on the beam for the blue team, scoring 9.875. Childs got the fourth “Arizona Stick” of the showcase and scored 9.900. Puleo made a nice recovery after falling off the beam to score 9.700. Wise collected 9.925 along with another “Arizona Stick.” Closing out the beam for the blue team was Martin who scored 9.875.
Looking ahead
The Wildcats will officially start their season on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. in McKale Center against the University of Washington.
