The University of Arizona gymnastics team’s second meet and first away meet of the season ended in a loss against Texas Woman’s University and the University of Denver at the Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas with a score of 193.350, placing third overall.
Vault
The meet opened with vault, where the GymCats won, scoring a total of 48.900. Elizabeth LaRusso went first and scored a 9.725. Abigayle Martin followed, scoring a 9.825. Sophie Derr scored the same as LaRusso. The event ended with Emma Strom scoring a 9.800, Ainsley Greever scoring a 9.500 and Jessa Janicke scoring the same as Martin.
Uneven bars
The uneven bars came up next, with Arizona posting a total of 47.575. Hillary Puleo started off with a score of 9.750, followed by Aubrey Krohnfeldt with a score of 9.800 and Sophia Maisel with a score of 9.725. Martin returned with a score of 8.975, Sadie Smith made her sophomore debut with a score of 9.200 and Derr closed out the series with a score of 9.100.
Balance Beam
The GymCats moved on to the balance beam where they scored 48.125 collectively, starting off with senior Gianna Lenczner scoring 9.650. Tirzah Wise followed with a 9.850 and Puleo and Krohnfeldt returned with scores of 9.150 and 9.100 respectively. Strom scored 9.575 and Martin ended the event with a 9.900, the highest score of any of the GymCats throughout the meet.
Floor Exercise
The GymCats ended with the floor exercise, beginning with Tirzah Wise scoring 9.800 in her floor debut, the highest score attained by any of the GymCats. She was followed by Puleo with a score of 9.775. The event concluded with Martin, LaRusso and Strom tying with a score of 9.725.
Looking forward
The GymCats will return home to McKale Center to host Towson University on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
