Arizona gymnastics earned a home win over Towson University on Friday, Jan 23 in McKale Center, posting a season-high 196.800 to top the Tigers’ 195.400.
The Wildcats finished first in all four rotations and closed the meet with their strongest performance on floor, scoring a 49.450. Abigayle Martin led Arizona with a 39.450 to win the all-around and capped the night with a meet-high 9.950 on floor.
Vault
Arizona opened on vault with a 49.075, led by Jessa Janicke’s 9.850. Emma Strom and Sophie Derr each added 9.825s to steady the opening rotation.
Bars
On uneven bars, the Wildcats posted a 49.225. Aubrey Krohnfeldt anchored the lineup with a 9.900, while Delaney Mead and Derr each scored 9.850. Martin contributed a 9.800 as Arizona built its advantage heading into the midpoint of the meet.
Beam
Arizona followed with a 49.050 on the balance beam. Martin paced the rotation with a 9.900, while Tirzah Wise and Teagan White added matching 9.850s to keep the GymCats in control entering the final rotation.
Floor
The Wildcats sealed the victory on floor exercise, scoring a meet-best 49.450. Martin’s 9.950 highlighted the lineup, while Strom posted a 9.925 and Hillary Puleo added a 9.900. Elizabeth LaRusso opened the rotation with a 9.850 as Arizona finished strong in front of the home crowd.
Looking forward
The GymCats will go back on the road to Provo, Utah to take on BYU on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. MST. This meet will be streaming on ESPN+ for Wildcat fans to watch while the GymCats are on the road.
