The University of Arizona (20-0, 7-0 in Big 12) will travel to Provo, Utah to face No. 13 BYU (16-2, 4-1 in Big 12) on Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center. This game will be the start of a tough stretch of games for the Wildcats as they move past halfway through their regular season.
History versus BYU
Arizona and BYU have a long history dating all the way back to December 1951 where the Cougars beat the Wildcats on their home court. Since then, the teams have met 41 times, with Arizona winning 21 times.
The teams met twice during the 2024-2025 season. On Feb. 4, 2025, Arizona beat BYU 85-74 in Provo. A few weeks later BYU traveled to Tucson and took a close 96-95 victory in McKale Center.
Arizona this season
Arizona is coming into this game undefeated 20-0. The Wildcats took two home victories on Wednesday, Jan. 21, against University of Cincinnati and Saturday, Jan. 24, against West Virginia University. Their victory over West Virginia marked the thirteenth game where the Wildcats won by 20 points or more.
Paving the way for Arizona are freshmen phenoms Koa Peat and Brayden Burries. So far, Peat has tallied 277 points averaging 14.6 per game and Burries has 269 averaging 14.2. Tobe Awaka has been essential grabbing rebounds which convert into second chance points. Awaka has recorded a team-high 182 rebounds averaging 9.6 per game.
This has been a record-breaking season so far for the Wildcats. The team has a great chemistry that allows them to work together as one on the court. Arizona looks to keep its perfect record as they head into a tough battle against BYU.
BYU this season
BYU is currently ranked No. 13 in the country. The Cougars are coming into this game after beating their rivals the University of Utah 91-78 on Saturday, Jan. 24. Before this game, they suffered one of their two losses against No. 15 Texas Tech University.
Freshman AJ Dybantsa will be a key matchup for Peat and Burries as the top scorer for the Cougars this season tallying 448 points and averaging 23.6 per game. He also holds the second-most rebounds on the team with 129. In their recent match up against Utah, Dybantsa posted a career high and set a new BYU freshman record with 43 points and six rebounds.
