The University of Arizona women’s basketball team will play against No. 20 West Virginia University on Saturday, Feb. 7 in Morgantown, West Virginia at noon. The Wildcats look to continue their winning streak after their win against Kansas State University on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
The Wildcats currently have a 11-11 record, while West Virginia has a 19-5 record. Arizona has a 2-9 conference record and is ranked No. 14 in the Big 12. West Virginia has a 9-3 conference record and is ranked third in the Big 12.
History vs West Virginia
Arizona has played the Mountaineers three times and have a clean record against them. The first game they played against each other was on Nov. 27, 1982 when Arizona won 65-61. Their largest margin of victory came on Jan. 25, 2025 when they beat West Virginia 77-62.
Mountaineers to Watch
The Mountaineers are led by 5-foot-8 junior guard Gia Cooke. Cooke is currently averaging 14.3 points per game on 36.8% shooting. Additionally, Cooke shoots 30.0% from 3-point range.
Kierra Wheeler is also an asset to this West Virginia team. This season, Wheeler is averaging 13.3 points per game, as well as averaging 7.4 assists per game.
Wildcats to Watch
The Wildcats are led by 5-foot-7 guard Mickayla Perdue, a graduate student transfer from Springfield, Ohio. Last season she was a standout at Cleveland State, averaging 20 points per game.
This season, Perdue has picked up right where she left off. She leads the team by averaging 17.1 points per game on 44.2% shooting. Additionally, Perdue is 35% from 3-point range this season.
