The University of Arizona softball team (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) return home for a double-header against Drake University Bulldogs (4-1, 0-0 MVC) on Feb. 12. The Wildcats dropped their last two games to the University of Oklahoma and are seeking to get back on track.
After the doubleheader, Arizona jumps straight into more action at the Bear Down Fiesta at Mike Candrea Field at Rita Hillenbrand Stadium where they will be hosting the University of Creighton, Coastal Carolina University and Utah Valley University.
History vs. Drake
Arizona softball is 14-0 all-time against Drake University, dating back to their first matchup on Feb. 25, 2000. The last meeting was on Feb. 22, 2024, where Arizona defeated Drake 6-3 in seven innings.
Drake in Recent Years
The Bulldogs finished seventh and eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference the last two seasons, ending with a record of 45-58 combined in both seasons. However, starting 4-1 this season, there is much optimism that Drake can be a threat to teams this year.
Coastal Carolina in Recent Years
Coastal Carolina softball has recently emerged as a competitive force in the Sun Belt Conference last season with a 42-19 record overall. However, starting rocky with a 2-4 record in their first six games this season, the Chanticleers are looking to reset this weekend.
Utah Valley in Recent Years
Utah Valley finished with a record of 18-33 last year, with their season culminating in defeat against Tarleton State University in the second round of the WAC tournament. The Wolverines are 2-3 entering the weekend hoping to build momentum at the Fiesta.
Creighton in Recent Years
Creighton finished with a 30-25 record last year, marking their second consecutive 30-win season. The Bluejays culminated as the runner-up in their respective conference tournament for the second year in a row. Creighton has started 2-3, losing each of their last three games.
Arizona in Recent Years
The Wildcats finished with a record of 48-13 last season, going 17-7 in conference play. They posted a home record of 26-9. The season concluded with a loss in the second round to University of Mississippi Ole Miss in the NCAA Super Regionals. The Wildcats look to build on that consistency this season.
With these matchups at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, Arizona looks to protect their home field and gain momentum for the remainder of the season.
