The University of Arizona women’s basketball team (11-13, 2-11 in Big 12) will host rival ASU (20-6, 7-6 in Big 12) on Saturday, Feb. 14 at noon in McKale Center at ALKEME Arena. The Wildcats look to move back into the winning column after two consecutive losses, most recently being at University of Cincinnati on Feb. 10.
History vs ASU
Since 1973, the Wildcats have a 43-64 record against the Sun Devils. The first game ever played between Arizona and ASU came on Feb. 2, 1973, when Arizona won 50-39. Most recently Arizona lost 68-61 in Tempe.
Sun Devils to Watch
ASU is led by senior guard Gabby Elliott who changed the landscape of college sports with the transfer portal. Elliott began her collegiate career by playing 2 years (2020-2022) at Clemson University, before transferring to Michigan State University. At Michigan State, she battled injuries and only played 15 games in the span of 2 years (2022-2024). After Michigan State, she transferred to Pennsylvania State University, where she played one season and averaged 13.6 points per game (2024-2025) before transferring to ASU.
Elliott is currently averaging 17.3 points per game on 42.3% shooting. Additionally, Elliott is shooting 33.1% from beyond the arc. However, Elliott only shoots 76.5% from the foul line.
Wildcats to Watch
The Wildcats are led by 5-foot-7 guard Mickayla Perdue, a graduate student transfer from Springfield, Ohio. Last season she was a standout at Cleveland State University, averaging 20 points per game.
This season, Perdue has picked up right where she left off last season. She leads the team by averaging 17.1 points per game on 44.2% shooting. Additionally, Perdue is 35% from 3-point range this season.
