The University of Arizona softball team (8-3, 0-0 in Big 12) prepares for a midweek matchup against the University of Nevada, Reno (6-4, 0-0 in MWC) on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m at Mike Candrea Field at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium. The Wildcats look to continue the momentum from the Bear Down Fiesta as they take on the Wolfpack in a midweek showdown.
Both Arizona and Nevada hope to continue their streak, following a solid performance in the early season tournament over the weekend. The Wildcats look to grab one more home-win before hitting the road to compete in the DeMarini Invitational in Palo Alto, California.
History vs. Nevada
The Wildcats are up 6-2 in their all time playing history against the Wolf Pack. Tuesday’s matchup will be the first meeting since 2010, where the Wildcats defeated Nevada 10-5. Arizona won four consecutive games between 1985 and 2007.
Nevada this season
Following an early season tournament of their own, the Wolf Pack went 3-2 over the weekend in the Littlewood Invitational in Tempe. After taking a loss to ASU on Friday, Nevada was able to rebound and win the final two games, beating Indiana University 4-2 in the last matchup.
The Wolf Pack started the new season with a gauntlet, playing against highly touted opponents to start the year. Most notably playing No.16 Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. in the Tiger Classic.
Arizona this season
The Wildcats are now 8-3 on the season. A loss to Coastal Carolina University provided a reality check for Arizona, as they would win three straight games following Friday night, all of which coming by mercy rule. Arizona has outscored their last three opponents 32-1, dominating the field during the win streak.
Arizona looks to protect home field once more before playing in their first true road test.
