The University of Arizona’s gymnastics team defeated West Virginia University on Saturday, Feb. 21 in McKale Center at ALKEME Arena where they posted a 196.625 team score to secure the win over the Mountaineers’ 194.650.
The Wildcats delivered steady performances across all four events, surpassing the 49.000 mark in three rotations and closing strong on floor exercise to seal the victory. Arizona showcased depth throughout the lineup with multiple gymnasts contributing scores of 9.800 or higher.
Vault
Arizona opened the meet on vault with a 48.950. Jessa Janicke led the rotation with a 9.875 while Sophie Derr, Abigayle Martin and Elizabeth LaRusso each recorded 9.775 to anchor the event.
Uneven bars
On uneven bars, Arizona posted a 49.225. Martin paced the Wildcats with a team-high 9.900, while Aubrey Krohnfeldt added a 9.875. Additionally, Derr scored 9.850 as Arizona gained separation heading into the second half of the meet.
Balance beam
Arizona continued its momentum on the balance beam recording a 49.125. Gianna Lenczner led the lineup with a 9.900. Martin contributed a 9.875 and Tirzah Wise added a 9.825 to maintain the lead.
Floor exercise
The Wildcats closed the night on floor exercise with their highest score of the meet, a 49.325. Derr and Emma Strom each posted 9.900, while Martin and Wise added matching 9.850s as Arizona secured the home victory.

Arizona is looking forward to their next meet against rivals ASU on Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. in McKale Center at ALKEME Arena.
