The No. 14 University of Arizona men’s tennis team wrapped up its run at the Big 12 Championship with a split weekend, defeating No. 9 University of Central Florida before falling to No. 3 Texas Christian University at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Arizona opened play on April 17 with a strong 4-3 victory over No. 9 UCF, earning a ranked win behind a dominant showing in singles. After dropping the doubles point, the Wildcats responded by winning four singles courts to secure the match.
No. 4 Jay Friend set the tone with a straight-sets win, while Wissam Abderrahman and No. 93 Alexander Rozin each delivered key victories to push Arizona past UCF in a tightly contested match.
The Wildcats returned to the court on April 18 to face No. 3 TCU, where they fell 4-0. TCU claimed the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play, winning three courts to clinch the match. Several singles matches were left unfinished as the Horned Frogs closed out the victory early.
Arizona exits the Big 12 Championship after facing one of the top teams in the nation, but the Wildcats showed resilience with a ranked win to open the tournament.
Overall, before entering the championship, the Arizona men’s tennis team had a strong season, highlighted by a 21-5 record and a No. 14 national ranking.
