Lewisville man who left scene of deadly Dallas wreck is arrested

Lewisville man who left the scene of a Dallas wreck Sunday night that killed an 18-month-old child was arrested and charged with manslaughter and failure to render aid, police said.

Gerardo Moreno, 24, was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 through an alley behind the Clusters Apartments in the 3130 block of Webb Chapel when he became distracted by a car that was coming from behind the vehicle, causing the truck to drift to the right and crash into a utility pole, according to a Dallas police report.

The airbags deployed on Moreno and his front-seat passengers, a woman holding her 18-month-old baby in her lap, the report stated.

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital where he died of serious internal injuries caused by the force of the truck’s airbags, according to a news release from the Dallas Police Department.

There were no other reported injuries in the wreck.

Moreno got out of the truck and fled without helping the child or waiting for paramedics, police said. He later called police and surrendered.

Moreno is currently in the Dallas County Jail and has been charged with manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid, the release stated. Bail is set at $15,000, according to jail records.

It’s not clear whether the mother will face any charges.
