University of Arizona sophomore men’s basketball player Ira Lee, 20, has been cited for a DUI incident that occurred early Sunday morning.
The UA Athletic Department is currently reviewing the incident for potential team consequences.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, Lee is facing a misdemeanor for failing to yield at an intersection and a “super extreme” DUI charge that involves a blood-alcohol level of .20 or higher. Lee was pulled over at 1:22 a.m. on Aug. 19, one day before beginning his sophomore year of classes, and tested for a blood-alcohol level of .215.
Lee’s arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 10.
The incident has also been sent to the UA Dean of Students Office for review under the Student Code of Conduct.
Lee, a power forward, is projected to be one of the more productive players on the men’s basketball team this year. The sophomore was a bench player in 2017-18 when Deandre Ayton and Dusan Ristic were in the program, but Lee is expected to be a starter this season.
