Whether you are looking to spend the 4th of July in Tucson at weekend-long festivities with your family or with friends at an 8-hour Eegee’s-filled movie marathon, these events are definitely worth checking out.

If you are looking for somewhere to take the whole family, then book your stay at the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort and Spa for its annual July 4th Experience.

In her article “Our Summer Staycation at JW Marriott Starr Pass,” blogger Nicole Bateman said, “We stayed for two nights over the 4th of July weekend. It was the first time we have been to Starr Pass and it was absolutely amazing. Our room (when we were in it) was clean, beautifully decorated and quiet. We had a balcony with the best view in the entire resort.”

Guests will enjoy a dive-in movie, resort rubber duck-hunt, bubble fun, two-for-one green fees, folklorico dancers, evening entertainment in the Salud Lobby Lounge and of course a top-of-the-line fireworks display beginning at 9 p.m.

The Star Pass Facebook page also promises fireworks, a dunk tank and a watermelon eating contest. The resort is offering holiday activities all week in an all-inclusive package with special room rates and resort credits.

For those of us on a student budget, The Loft Cinema’s Patriotic 4th of July Triple Feature is the perfect way to celebrate Independence Day. Tickets for “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” at noon or “Jaws” at 3 p.m. are $6 for general admission. Zach Breneman, business manager at The Loft, said they always team up with Liberty Watch Radio for a film at noon, but this is the first year they wanted to add another film. When asked what made them choose “Jaws” Breneman said, “It is set on the Fourth of July. We were thinking of movies with a Fourth of July theme, and that turned out to be the best.”

For an extra $2 you can stick around for the Team America Sing-A-Long/Curse-A-Thon at 6 p.m. which is in its fifth year, according Breneman.

“Join your fellow fun-loving Americans as we put the ‘F’ back in freedom by watching the cinematic exploits of America’s favorite anti-terrorist puppet commandos, Team America… In honor of our First Amendment freedoms, we’ll be screening the unrated, uncensored and totally unabashed Director’s Cut of Team America … which is definitely not suitable for children,” according to The Loft’s website.

The Loft will also have some of Tucson’s favorite food trucks, featuring 4th of July staples like hamburgers and hotdogs, in the parking lot. And cool down in the July heat with Eegees: Both regular and alcoholic versions will be offered.
