    3 things to know today

    UA grad wins Oscar

    Ari Sandel, a 1998 UA graduate, won an Academy Award Sunday night for best live action short film. Sandel wrote and directed “”West Bank Story,”” a 22-minute musical comedy about a Palestinian woman who falls in love with an Israeli soldier. Sandel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in media arts and also received a special certificate in Middle Eastern studies.

    Snag some school spirit

    Applications for Arizona
    Allegiance, the UA’s official spirit club, are available in the Associated Students of the University of Arizona office, located on the third floor of the Student Union Memorial Center. Allegiance members participate in socials, tailgates, athletic events, annual athletic banquets and road trips and host the Spirit Cup competition in the spring. Applications are due Monday by 5 p.m.

    Whistle while you work

    Or not. Less than half of Americans surveyed said they were satisfied with their jobs, according to research conducted by LiveScience. The trend was strongest among workers under the age of 25, where less than 39 percent were satisfied with their jobs. Workers in Arizona, however, were slightly happier than the national average, with 56 percent saying they were satisfied.
