“On the spot: Rachel Cabakoff, journalism freshman”

I have a potentially life-altering question to ask you. What would you think if the Cookie Monster wasn’t the Cookie Monster anymore?

I think that would be pretty scary.

Yeah. Apparently in 2006, and because I guess little kids are getting fat these days, he likes fruits and vegetables now and one of his new favorite foods is eggplant.

So what do they call him then? The Vegetable Monster?

Yeah. Actually, I think he’s the Veggie Monster now.

    That’s not the same though.

No, not at all. Now doesn’t that kind of alter your entire childhood?

It changes it a little bit yeah. (Laughs)

Yeah, I know. Me too. I was just thinking about that the other day and now I can’t really look at Sesame Street in the same way anymore.

That’s weird. That’s like saying Big Bird is not really a bird or something like that.

So how can the Cookie Monster — the guy who devours all cookies in sight — how can he all of a sudden like eggplant and not cookies?

I don’t know. I wonder how they even started that.

Just because kids were getting fat and I guess they decided that they wanted to promote healthy eating habits for some reason.

So, like, in one episode they just said, “”He’s going to eat vegetables now,”” or something?

The Cookie Monster went on the Martha Stewart Show and then he declared that cookies are just a “”sometimes food.””

No! They’ve got to be an all-times food.
