The No. 8 Arizona women’s golf team begins play today in the Wildcat Invitational at the Arizona National Golf Club. The tournament is Arizona’s only home tournament of the season and UA head coach Shelly Haywood expects a lot from her team.
“”I’d like to see a rebound tournament,”” she said. “”We have a great field and if we can get (senior) Alison (Walshe), (senior) Mary (Jacob) and (junior) Amanda (Wilson) in the top-10 we will have a great chance to win the tournament>.””
The nation’s top four teams (UCLA, Duke, ASU and USC) will be in attendance and 12 of the 16 teams participating are ranked.
Arizona will be looking to improve from its’ eighth-place finish in its last tournament on Feb. 13, where junior Amanda Wilson paced the Wildcats with a 17th-place finish, her first top-20 finish of the season.
